Dr. Bob Tyler

Bob has been engaged in teaching, research and extension related to crop quality and utilization and food processing and product development for more than 40 years, mainly with the College of Agriculture and Bioresources at the University of Saskatchewan, and in the early years at the National Research Council of Canada in Saskatoon. His research group is perhaps best known for its work on pulse crop fractionation and extrusion processing of pulse protein ingredients, and for provision of technical and advisory services to agri-food companies.

For much of his time at the U of S, Bob has been active in administrative roles as Department Head, Associate Dean Academic, Associate Dean Research and Graduate Studies, and Acting Dean, and in academic governance through University Council. As well, he has served as Manager of Processing Research with Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, Food Processing Chair at the Saskatchewan Food Industry Development Centre, Managing Director of the Global Institute for Food Security, and Interim Chief Technology Officer with Protein Industries Canada.

He has provided leadership to a variety of organizations related to agriculture and food, including the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists, the Saskatchewan Agricultural Graduates’ Association, Ag-West Bio Inc. and the Ministry of Agriculture’s Agri-Food Council.

In Protein Industries Canada's 2021 Annual General Meeting, Dr. Tyler was awarded an Honorary Lifetime Membership for his contribution to Protein Industries Canada and Canada’s agrifood sector.
