Collaboratively Capturing Canada's Plant-Based Potential
- Posted:

In April, I shared the news that the Global Innovation Clusters (formerly the Superclusters) had been recapitalized in Budget 2022 for a further six years. This re-investment by the federal government is a testament to the impact the program is having on increasing Canada’s competitiveness in global industries. We appreciate the federal government’s support of Protein Industries Canada and Canada’s plant-based food, feed and ingredient sector, and are eager to continue our work over the next six years.
We remain confident in the potential plant-based foods can have for Canada. We believe in our vision of Canada being a global leader in plant-based food, feed and ingredients and that together, we can create a $25 billion industry for Canada supported by 17,000 jobs by 2035. We are passionate about contributing solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges – including climate change, food security and human health. Over the next six years, our vision is to have Canada’s plant-based food, feed and ingredient sector drive Canada’s green economic growth, and create wealth and opportunity for every Canadian.
This is a bold vision that will require collaboration from the entire ecosystem. We need to be aligned, and work together to scale Canadian companies and build out Canada’s global reputation. To help develop our strategy on how best to do that, we are asking members of the ecosystem to fill out a short survey. The survey will help us develop our strategy for the future and ensure that the work of Protein Industries Canada remains rooted in the needs of industry.
The survey is brief and should not take more than five minutes. I appreciate each of you taking the time to share your insight and expertise on how together we can continue to build Canada’s plant-based sector. I also invite you to join us in Winnipeg on Sept. 13 & 14 for our AGM and conference. We have a great day planned, and I am eager to again be in a room with friends and colleagues.
