Regina-based Protein Industries Canada is allocating 40-million-dollars in federal funds to expand value-added food production and processing on the prairies.

CEO Bill Gruel says the first call for proposals has a deadline of June 28th, but a second call for projects will open September 1st.

He says strong worldwide demand for prairie crops offers a growth opportunity of 19-billion-dollars.

Gruel says Protein Industries Canada will match up to 50 percent of industry investments in expanding value-added food production and processing.

The federal supercluster fund will invest over 150-million-dollars over the next four years.
