Goal

Scale up novel proprietary oat protein concentrate production processes and develop a suite of novel products that incorporate these ingredients into new consumer products.

Project Summary

Leveraging Canada’s large oat supply and its strong reputation as an innovator, Roquette will develop Canada’s first oat-protein ingredient through the project. Oat Canada will test the ingredient in its current line of products as well as in several new products.

The companies’ combined expertise will help meet the growing demand for healthy, sustainable plant-based foods and ingredients, including among Canadian consumers.

Results and Impact

  • The partners increased their knowledge about oat protein process and the application of the ingredient. Process and product development each achieved their targets.
  • The study done during the project period also allowed them to evaluate target markets, ingredient composition and functionality, and raw material choices to achieve sustainable and profitable commercialization instead of just pure technology development.
  • The project allowed for scale-up from lab and pilot scale at Roquette internal R&D facility to industrial scale production. The products were also validated at potential customer/consortium member Oat Canada in beverage/oat milk application.
